Columbo Title

Columbo was born with a brass spoon in his mouth during late-night Dojo Studios sessions between producer Joe Lewis and vocalist Taji. Their sound tells a story almost as bizarre as the musicians’ backgrounds. Their first collaboration took place on the tiny Arabian Gulf island of Bahrain where Lewis, originally from the Welsh fishing village of Mumbles, and Taji, a Palestinian-Egyptian born in England, both lived. It was in that Garden of Eden that Lewis first picked up his father’s classical guitar and Taji tried crooning to the sound of his mother’s Serge Gainsbourg records.

Columbo’s influences range from the passionate alchemy of the Middle Eastern music they grew up with, to the Garage scene Lewis began his professional career in, to the South London Grime that Dojo Studios regularly produces. The band melds hip-hop with old-school blues and smokey-bar jazz in a down-beat Sunday-morning-hangover-coffee-and-cigarettes transmission. Stay tuned for their debut release Fine Lines.
